I'm torn about finding the one?

I'm having a controversy with myself: will love come along or should you just pick up guys you like? I've brought it up with my friend (who's very girly and LOVES boys) and she thinks that you should say hi to boys that are cute. That seems too easy, too common, and way too cliche. I'd like a boy to come along mysteriously, like in fictional books. (Hush hush, Twilight, Fallen, etc.) But that's fiction, right?
