How are fertilization and meosis related to reproduction?

Meiosis is ALWAYS ociated with ual reproduction either preceding or following ual reproduction. Meoisis is the process that produces eggs and sperm that have only one complete set of chromosomes (in humans, eggs and sperm have 23 chromosomes; adults have 46 chromosomes or two of each kind of 23 chromosomes). When an egg and sperm fuse (syngamy) to form a zygote, the chromosome number is restored to 46 chromosomes but at random from the mother's and father's chromosomes. This produces genetic variations in the offspring.
