Do people with dreadlocks wash their hair?

Just wondering. Personally, I like the look of nicely done dreadlocks but I find them to be a little unclean looking on most people I see out in public. Maybe because the actual hair looks tangled? Not sure. Anyways, I was wondering if they washed their hair. Thanks.
